Christmas joy

Merry Christmas

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Christmas? Honestly? For me, when I think about Christmas I think about family, family gatherings, lunches, dinners, outings, meeting the extended family and thinking of witty answers to their unending questions and the headaches that follow and of course the joy of spending time together which makes it all better. I don’t come from a Christian family and yet there’s a festive mood in the house. May be its because the government has declared Christmas to be a national holiday, or that everybody just needs an excuse to relax and have fun, or that God is working in his miraculous ways (I like this one better). My mother actually asked me if I was going to a party on Christmas eve, that too at 9.30 pm (it was quite funny) and then I forgot to inform her that I was invited for dinner and she calls me at 9 to ask me why I wasn’t home yet, funny thing was I had just reached home and was walking up the stairs, the conversation that followed made both my parents laugh, literally. This got me thinking and I was reminded of our Christmas service on 21st December, Saturday (about which I was supposed to write, oops:) and about Christmas, the real reason for it and the real reason behind the joy we share. Christmas is not about receiving and giving gifts or going to parties and having fun or thinking of being witty or anything else. Christmas is about the joy of the birth of Christ and sharing that joy with each other and reminding ourselves the real reason for Christmas, because God loves us so much as we read in the bible.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” –John 3:16.

We had our Christmas service on 21st December, at Blue note café at 4pm. We had so much fun sharing the message of the birth of Christ and singing praises to Him. We had our choir, lead by Chumlano, singing carols and it was amazing to see people walk in as they heard us singing:). The emcees, Jannu and Adam did an amazing job introducing the songs and sharing about Christmas. We, our pastor, Gyan shared a Christmas greetings and of course the social media video about Joseph and Mary and the video about what the leaders/ famous people around the world thought about Christmas. Which were both amazing. We had a dance on the song “every move I make” and everyone did great. I was standing at the back of the room absorbing all this and wishing I had taken better care of my health so that my tonsillitis and pharyngitis would have healed by then and I would be singing with the choir too. But it was so much fun to be a part of the audience and see and learn about God’s love as I watched the entire program with all these people (some of whom I met for the first time). After the message we had our fellowship time, where we had tea and snacks as we met with each other and got to know more people in God’s big family. At the end of the day we were all exhausted but excited and overwhelmed at the same time with the love that we saw around us. When I got home, I was so tired and ready to just go to sleep and yet I was excited as I was thinking “wow! I cant wait to do this again next year.” It was and always is overwhelming to see God’s love in action and to be able to share that joy is amazing.

We had a Christmas dinner at Gyan and Chumlano’s place last(25 Dec.) night. The food was amazing, I had to stop myself from overeating. The people there were so nice and it was a great time of fellowship. We missed the people who could not make it to dinner, and hope we meet next time. Christmas day may have ended but I hope the joy of Christmas never fades from your heart as you live your lives and share this joy with others. Sharing is caring we learnt as kids, and I know for a fact that everything is better when shared, including love. God loves you, and it doesn’t matter who you are, He just does. Always remember that. God bless:)

p/s: special thank you to Blue note café and all the staff who work there, for the amazing people that you are. And also the Burmese fellowship, the choir and core team at KIF for your love and friendship that is so amazing.
